An old carpenter workshop located in the heart of Exarcheia has been converted in an artisanal microbakery, taking in consideration the preexisting aspects of the space, the new usage necessities and the atmosphere of the vibrant neighbourhood. Following the preexisting structure, few different areas have been created to accommodate the kitchen lab, the storage, the fornaio working space and the customer area. The oven is on sight, working as a focal point of the shop, so that the customers can observe the baking process behind the products. The design features few bold elements: exposed concrete columns to emphasise the original structure and the high ceiling, in contrast with the new colourful metal stairs, and a custom made terrazzo countertop that reflects the shop identity and highlights the display space with its vivid pattern.
